Optimal Risk Training has partnered with award-winning medical training provider Turret Training to deliver specialist first aid and pre-hospital trauma training for security professionals working in public-facing environments.

Designed for those who may be first on scene during a medical emergency or traumatic incident, these practical courses develop the skills needed to assess, stabilise and support casualties until professional medical help arrives.

The training goes beyond the basic first aid offered by other courses, focusing on realistic scenarios, trauma management and effective teamwork with emergency medical services.

Course 1 - FAST Aid: Public-Facing Professionals

Practical first aid and trauma skills for security and public-facing roles

FAST Aid is a 4-day hands-on course designed for professionals working in security, hospitality and other public-facing roles where they may need to handle minor medical emergencies or manage severely injured casualties, while providing an effective handover to professional medical teams.

• Mechanism of Injury (MOI)
• Advanced Bleed Management and tourniquet application
• Enhanced splinting and bandaging
• Use of Haemostatic agents
• Pocket mask techniques
• Chest seals
• Airway positioning and adjuncts
• Pulse oximetry
• Casualty assessment and management

Who is this for? 

Security professionals, public-facing staff, hospitality teams and personnel working in Publicly Accessible Venues (PAVs).


Certification

The programme is aligned with the UK Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) matrix at Level D and includes comprehensive emergency first aid, CPR and trauma interventions.

The training is clinically assured and certified by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh – Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care.

Course 2 - FAST Aid: Assisting the Paramedic

Advanced trauma and medical support for first responders

This practical programme is designed for security professionals, medics, remote workers and other first responders who may be required to provide advanced support before, and alongside, professional medical services.

It includes practical workshops, scenario-based assessments and certification valid for three years . Delegates develop practical skills in trauma response, airway management, haemorrhage control and emergency interventions, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, equipment familiarity and supporting paramedics at the scene.

What You Will Learn

Day 1 – Trauma Response

• Covers primary survey, haemorrhage control beyond tourniquets, airway management, BVM ventilation and supraglottic airway device use. Emphasises teamwork, equipment familiarity and airway troubleshooting.

Day 2 – Trauma Interventions

• Focuses on analgesia with Penthrox, recognition and supporting  the management of tension pneumothorax, needle decompression and pelvic binder application. Includes landmarking drills, procedural practice and supporting paramedics during interventions.

Day 3 – Medical Support & Integration

• Covers ECG monitoring support, electrode placement, and multi-casualty scenario integration. Concludes with assessment, Q&A, reflection, and certification

Assessment

Learning is assessed throughout the course through practical observation, workshops and scenario-based exercises, culminating in a final practical assessment with structured feedback.

Duration: 2.5–3 days

Certification 

On successful completion, delegates will be awarded a FAST Aid – Assisting the Paramedic Certificate (valid 3 years), evidencing advanced first aid and paramedic support competencies.
